Asia de Cuba’s Pan-cultural Feast Opens
at Mondrian South Beach
Continuing in the signature style of Jeffrey Chodorow’s China Grill Management www.chinagrillmgt.com, Jeffrey Chodorow & Morgans Hotel Group recently announced the opening of Asia de Cuba at Mondrian South Beach, Miami Beach, FL.
The first Asia de Cuba opened its doors in 1997 inside the sleek and sophisticated Morgans hotel in New York City and continues to rank as one of Zagat NYC’s “most popular nightspots” after more than eleven years in operation. Other locations include The Mondrian in Los Angeles and Scottsdale, The Clift in San Francisco, and at St. Martins Lane in London (which, after eight years in operation, was recently named to the list of top five favorites in London by readers of the Evening Standard, one of London’s leading dailies).
Asia de Cuba at Mondrian South Beach brings designer Marcel Wanders’ ‘Sleeping Beauty’s Castle’ fantasy into a vibrant and social atmosphere with creative menus, combining the best Asian and Latin flavors. Under the culinary direction of Executive Chef Bryan Flyer, diners will indulge in Asia de Cuba’s imaginative dishes in portions intended for sharing.
Signature appetizers showcase Tunapica, tuna tartare picadillo-style with Spanish olives, black currants, almonds and coconut with a soy-lime vinaigrette and served on wonton crisps; and Calamari Salad “Asia de Cuba,” a combination of crispy calamari, chayote, hearts of palm, bananas, cashews, chicory and radicchio with a sesame orange dressing.
Entrees include Lobster “Mai Tai,” with rum, coconut, red curry and wok crisp boniato; Pan Seared Ahi Tuna served rare, with crunchy wasabi mashed potatoes and chimichurri sauce; Cuban BBQ Chicken with Thai coconut sticky rice, avocado fruit salsa, and tamarind sauce; and Palomillo of Marinated Lamb, pan seared with sofrito of stir-fried peppers, onions, and Japanese eggplant accompanied by a watercress salad dressed in orange oil.
Asia de Cuba also boasts a menu of delicious, must-have side dishes such as Panko Crusted Crispy Plantain; Wokked Chinese Long Beans with Chicharrones (crispy pork skin); Lobster Boniato Mash; and Plantain Fried Rice with Avocado Salad.
The perfect conclusion comes in the form of one of Asia de Cuba’s signature desserts, like the classic Cielo de Coco, coconut, white chocolate fudge, and rum flamed banana layer cake with homemade dulce de leche ice cream; Cuba Opera, devil’s food cake, Kahlua, milk chocolate and coffee mousse and coffee brittle ice cream; or Mini Mexican Doughnuts served with caramel sauce, to name a few.
The restaurant also features an extensive array of Specialty Cocktails that cover a globe-spanning range in flavors from clean (Asian Sapphire with Bombay Sapphire, muddled cucumber, fresh lemon juice, soda), to cool (Caribbean Cooler with Hangar One Kaffir Lime vodka, muddled pineapple, coconut water), to caliente (Jalapeno/Cilantro Margarita with Jalapeno and Cilantro infused Milagro Tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, splash of pineapple).
The communal table, made popular at the first Asia de Cuba in NYC, seats 24 guests and is the royal dining table of Wanders’ ‘Sleeping Beauty’s fantasy’. Situated upon a custom made carpet, a pair of high backed seats anchor the long rectangular table. Gigantic golden bells above call out to the guests to take their seats and prepare for their feast while the crystal chandeliers set within the bells shower the diners with faceted light.
